Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette with Norma Shearer and Tyrone Power. I was dreading this one a bit, since most of my 1938 movies are less than 90 minutes and this one runs over 2 1/2 hours. I have to say, though, that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I broke up my viewing over several nights. Tyrone Power didn't impress, but Norma Shearer was very good (and showed a few "silent movie" moments). I really liked Robert Morley as Louis the XVI. He starts off as a passive lump and only gradually creates a complex and likable character. Both he and Norma Shearer were nominated for Oscars for this movie.
